THE LABORATORY

Lumen8 Laboratories is the research and development entity behind PrismPixel™. It studies how light behaves at the boundary of a surface — how it scatters, how it is extinguished, how much of it a pane should keep and how much it should give back to the eye.

THE MEDIUM

PrismPixel™ is the artistic medium that grew from that work: painting with light on surfaces engineered to receive it. Prism Pixel Creators is the circle of makers who practise it; the Threshold and the Inverse Archive are where the practice is documented.

THE PRODUCT LINES

PrismPixel Glass™ — Transparent Projection Substrate: a fifteen-micron sub-diffuse coating that keeps a window a window, with 48.2% transmittance and better than 99.0% hotspot extinction. PrismPixel Glow™ — Opaque High-Luminance Variant: the same scattering physics over a reflective backing, for surgical theatres, stages, broadcast studios and daylight advertising where brightness above 3,000 nits outranks transparency.

THE POSTURE

Lumen8 publishes its research agenda openly, invites makers to claim unsolved problems, and archives failures as carefully as successes. The laboratory's name is a promise: to measure light honestly, and to make surfaces worthy of it.
