THE PROBLEM

“Fashion photographers currently use expensive ghost mannequin techniques—removing invisible stands in post-production. Solution: rear-projected substrate where the mannequin is photographed while backlit. The background is a fully realized runway, fitting room, or lifestyle environment projected from behind. The mannequin appears to float in context. No post-production needed. The photographer shoots once; the image is finished. Fashion brands reduce photo production time by 70% and cost by 40%.”

REVENUE MODEL

$20K–40K per setup. Licensing to fashion photography services globally.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Substrate allowing foreground fabric detail to remain crisp while rear-projection creates vivid environmental context. No reflections on fabric. No light bleed. Material becomes invisible—viewer sees product and environment only.

MARKET

Fashion photography studios, e-commerce photography services, fashion brand in-house photo labs, luxury brand marketing departments.

THE QUESTION

“Can rear-projection replace expensive ghost mannequin photography? Can the material be the studio?”

Current evidence

None logged. No test or installation substantiates this investigation yet.

Unknowns

Substrate behaviour at the proposed scale, ambient-light conditions, projector configuration and viewing geometry remain to be tested.
