THE PROBLEM

“A high-end fabric supplier (textiles, leather, materials) needs to sell architects and designers on their products. Problem: a fabric swatch is two inches. A designer needs to imagine a 10m × 3m wall. Solution: rear-projected surface where fabric swatches are placed in front. The rear-projection shows a photorealistic interior space upholstered entirely in that fabric at full scale. A leather swatch becomes a leather sofa, wall, staircase. A textile becomes a curtain. The designer sees the material in context, at scale, photorealistic. They buy immediately because they've already visualized the final installation.”

REVENUE MODEL

$20K–40K per showroom. 2,000+ high-end material showrooms.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Material allowing fine fabric detail visibility while rear-projection creates photorealistic environmental context. No washing out fabric. No color shift. Fabric remains itself while world changes around it.

MARKET

Luxury material showrooms, architectural specification libraries, interior design studios, commercial real estate visualization centers.

THE QUESTION

“Can a swatch become a room? Can rear-projection sell materials at scale?”

Current evidence

None logged. No test or installation substantiates this investigation yet.

Unknowns

Substrate behaviour at the proposed scale, ambient-light conditions, projector configuration and viewing geometry remain to be tested.

Possible collaborators
