THE PROBLEM

“An architecture firm wants to sell a building material (cladding, flooring, glazing, etc.) to developers. Problem: material swatches are small. Architects need to imagine buildings. Solution: rear-projected surface where material samples are placed in front. The rear-projection shows a photorealistic building facade or interior built entirely from that material at full scale. A metal cladding swatch becomes a 20-story building. A flooring sample becomes a 10,000 sq ft atrium. The architect sees the final building. They buy.”

REVENUE MODEL

$30K–60K per showroom. 500+ material suppliers.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Material allowing fine sample detail visibility while rear-projection creates photorealistic architectural context. Sample remains itself while world scales up around it.

MARKET

Building material manufacturers, architectural specification centers, commercial real estate visualization, construction technology firms.

THE QUESTION

“Can a material swatch become a building? Can rear-projection sell architecture?”

Current evidence

None logged. No test or installation substantiates this investigation yet.

Unknowns

Substrate behaviour at the proposed scale, ambient-light conditions, projector configuration and viewing geometry remain to be tested.
